Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) recognised for Australian student visas

We are delighted to let you know that the Australian Immigration Minister Chris Bowen has announced that Cambridge English: Advanced (also known as Certificate in Advanced English, CAE) will be recognised for Australian student visas. This means that students who want to study in Australia will be able to use this high
quality, secure international qualification to prove that they have the language skills they need to succeed in education in an English speaking environment. This not only creates exciting new opportunities for Cambridge English: Advanced candidates but also for schools to offer courses for this valuable qualification to an even larger group of candidates.
Cambridge ESOL welcomes this announcement, which means a greater choice of high-quality language tests for institutions in Australia, and for international students who want to study there. Cambridge English: Advanced complements IELTS, which is well established as a test of English for immigration to Australia, and which is also produced by Cambridge ESOL.
As you may know Cambridge English: Advanced is accepted by more than 2,800 organisations worldwide – including nearly 50 Australian universities and TAFE institutions. It is also accepted by almost all UK universities and by the UK Border Agency for all categories of visa, including Tier 4 student visas. In addition, the UK's Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) awards candidates with Grade A at Cambridge English: Advanced 70 UCAS Tariff points towards their university and college application. We are committed to further enhance the recognition of Cambridge English: Advanced globally to ensure that candidates with a Cambridge English: Advanced certificate can use it to study or work at home or abroad.
We will be in touch with you with further information once the Australian Government's Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) makes announcement with details of the new arrangements and the Cambridge English: Advanced scores to be accepted for the various student visa subclasses. In the meantime please let your students know about this exciting new opportunity and that they can now take Cambridge English: Advanced for studying in Australia.
